These are put up every September to raise awareness. MHA also talks to all downtown businesses to make them aware. Typically people will come up while placing the ribbons to talk about it. MHA was awarded a grant from Target Distribution to expand their activities for Suicide Prevention Month. A campaign was started for September called Light the Night for Hope. MHA is asking that people change their lights to purple for the month of September and to identify their six (6). For every suicide death it is estimated that there are six (6) people who are greatly affected. While there are many more affected, there are six (6) greatly affected. MHA is encouraging people to identify their six (6) - who are the people in your life that you care about. They are encouraging people to start the conversation related to mental health and suicide and to do check-ins with them. The way they are doing that is through glow sticks.
