HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011 October NewsletterStaff Updates: This month, we will highlight Claire Hornberger, MHMR Administrator. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland but have lived most of my life in Pennsylvania. I have a bachelor’s and master’s in social work from Shippensburg University and University of Maryland, respectively. The majority of my career has been working with adults who have mental illness (primarily in outpatient and partial hospitalization settings, but also in an LTSR). I have also worked in a day treatment program for kids, a DD group home, a nurs- ing home and a day care (I would have to say the day care was one of my toughest jobs— WOW! Do I admire those workers!). My husband and I live in Adams County but have a Hanover address. He is a park ranger and police officer. We have 3 cats and enjoy boating, camping, and traveling. I also enjoy scrapbooking but can’t seem to interest him in that one! I have worked for the County for close to 4 years now—my, how time flies! We thought it was good to re-visit the topic. “Don’t let the bed bugs bite!” is no longer just a term used while tucking your children into bed for the night. Bed bugs have been on the news for several months now, not only in Frank- lin County, but in other parts of the country as well. What are some tips to decrease your chances of finding your- self in an infestation? Prevention. Be cautious of donated furniture and clothing, place dirty clothing in sealed plastic bags until it is time to do laundry and then throw the plastic bag away, remove clutter to reduce hiding places for the bed bugs, be mindful of the places you are sitting, and wash and dry newly purchasing clothing and linens as soon as you return home from shopping, just to name a few. Bed bug infestations cannot be properly exterminated by homeowners or landlords. If an infestation is suspected, call a professional exterminator who is willing to treat bed bugs. From the Desk of the Administrator: Later today, our organizational leadership team meets to begin the process of updating our strategic plan for next year—I have NO IDEA where the time went! The fourth goal on our current strategic plan is: By December 31, 2011, Franklin/Fulton MH/MR/EI will provide friendly, professional customer service to all indi- viduals, providers, and organizations. The steps of this goal are: 1) A guide to identify what MH/MR/EI expects from all employees in terms of customer service will be developed; 2) Develop a survey to determine a base line; 3) Each department will complete a thorough review of the paperwork required of individuals in an effort to decrease/consolidate required infor- mation/signatures; 4) New paperwork processes (identified in workgroups) will be implemented; and 5) All staff will be trained on the new customer services guidelines. This group has been plugging away very steadily during this year. The workgroup identified both individuals in services and providers as our customers, so both have been the focus of this goal. The customer service guide is growing by the day and is turning out to be a very helpful tool! The group utilized “survey monkey” to survey our staff on what our baseline is for this; we found this to be a useful exercise and plan to do a follow up survey after the staff have all been trained. This group also worked very hard to identify any unnecessary and/or duplicate paperwork that we require from our customers and have begun to streamline as much as possible in this area.
