Fax: 717-264-8667 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 21, 2008 Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Chambersburg, PA - The Franklin County Commissioners want to remind residents to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Recycling is not only good for the environment but it just makes good sense. Try using canvas or paper bags instead of plastic. Landfills are quickly filling up with plastic bags, which do not biodegrade but photodegrade breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits. The United State uses over 380 billion plastic bags a year. One sturdy shopping bag will take the place of thousands of plastic bags over its lifetime. If you must use plastic bags please be sure to recycle them. Many area merchants offer recycling containers for plastic bags. Most County Townships and Boroughs offer recycling opportunities. All County residents can take their recyclables to the Washington Township Transfer Station located on Route 16 East of Waynesboro; the Mountain View Reclamation Landfill located at 9446 Letzburg Rd, Greencastle; and the IESI Blue Ridge Landfill located at 3747 White Church Rd, Chambersburg. Fax: 717-264-8667 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 5, 2008 URGENT - Need for Paper Chambersburg, PA - The Franklin County Commissioners want to let all residents of the County know that the Washington Township Recycling Center is in need of all types of paper to recycle. The Recycling Center is located on Rt 16 East of Waynesboro it is open from 8 a.m to 4.15 p.m Monday thru Saturday. The Franklin County Commissioners encourage you to recycle your newspapers and all forms of paper to include magazines. Newspapers and office paper that is thrown in the normal trash and taken to a landfill take over 40 years to decompose. Paper that is recycled and used for farm bedding decomposes within a year. The Recycling Center in Washington Township will take all types of paper even if it has been shredded. Help them Help you and make Franklin County a great place to live. Although open to the broad community based on need, the t'service is generally intended for low and middle income senior citizens needing help in preparing both income tax re- turns and requests for state sponsored property tax and rent rebates. Counselor services will be offered generally on ,a first- come, first served basis in two locations beginning through Wednesday, April 9. Services are offered at the GreencastIe Senior Activity Center on Antrim Church Road (597-2020) each Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. .
