Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Chambersburg, PA - The Franklin County Commissioners want to remind residents
to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Recycling is not only good for the environment
but it just makes good sense. Try using canvas or paper bags instead of
plastic. Landfills are quickly filling up with plastic bags, which do not
biodegrade but photodegrade breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic
bits. The United State uses over 380 billion plastic bags a year. One
sturdy shopping bag will take the place of thousands of plastic bags over its
lifetime. If you must use plastic bags please be sure to recycle them. Many
area merchants offer recycling containers for plastic bags. Most County
Townships and Boroughs offer recycling opportunities. All County residents
can take their recyclables to the Washington Township Transfer Station
located on Route 16 East of Waynesboro; the Mountain View Reclamation
Landfill located at 9446 Letzburg Rd, Greencastle; and the IESI Blue Ridge
Landfill located at 3747 White Church Rd, Chambersburg. For further
information please contact the Franklin County Planning Commission at 261-
3855.
