Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Chambersburg, PA - The Franklin County Commissioners want to remind residents
to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Recycling is not only good for the environment
but it just makes good sense. One of the things we don't realize in are
everyday life is how containers we use have changed.
Sixty years ago most
County residents either had their milk delivered in a glass bottle that was
put back on the stoop and recycled or they got their milk in a pail. Do you
remember as a child how you would return glass soda bottles for a nickel so
they could be reused? Most of us can also remember a time when bottled water
was unheard of. Today though, things are just a little different as most
people use plastic bottles for milk, soda, and water.
This poses a problem;
if the plastic container is not recycled and thrown in the trash it ends up
taking up space in a landfill.
Recycled plastic bottles can be used for
anything from plastic lumber to the carpet you walk on.
You can recycle
plastic bottles in most townships and boroughs in the County.
There are also
many home and craft uses for plastic bottles. The Internet has a multitude
of ideas for recycling these items. Remember that Earth Day is celebrated on
April 22nd for a good time and to learn more about recycling and the
environment please consider attending the Earth Celebration Day at Renfrew
Park, Waynesboro Saturday April 19th from 11: 00 AM - 4: 00 PM. For further
information please contact the Franklin County Planning Commission at 261-
3855.
