PENNSYLVANIA AWARDED SAMHSA
SYSTEM OF CARE GRANT
Recently, Pennsylvania received a $4
million four-year grant from the federal
Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA) that
willAenableAallAofAPennsylvania’sAcountiesA
to become part of the national system of
care movement to more effectively serve
youth with complex behavioral health
challenges and their families. The grant
will enhance the efforts of the
Pennsylvania System of Care (SOC)
Partnership, where there are currently 11
partner counties and eight learning
communities through the existing grant
that ends in 2015. The SOC Partnership
will continue to provide technical
assistance to existing and new counties
as they establish local leadership teams
and progress towards the defined SOC
standards: equal partnership among
youth, family and systems partners in all
aspects of integrating the child-serving
systems so that desired outcomes are
achieved cost effectively through
evidence-based practices and natural
supports. An additional focus of the new
funding will be on implementing the
enhanced National Standards for
Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate
Services in health and health care.
The State Leadership Team will be
responsible for coordinating the work of
the new grant at the state level. Youth
leaders, family leaders and top officials
from mental health, child welfare,
juvenile Justice, education, and the drug
and alcohol proudly serve as equal
partners on the state level team. For
additional information, contact Ellen
DiDomenico at edidomenic@pa.gov.
SECOND SAMHSA GRANT AWARDED
OMHSAS also just received notification
that Pennsylvania has been awarded a
federal grant to fund the Safe
Schools/Healthy Students Partnership.
The award provides $2 million per year
for four years to help create safe and
supportive schools and communities by
decreasing bullying, youth violence and
criminal behavior and promoting healthy
development, social and emotional
learning and academic achievement.

TF-CBT CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
LAUNCHED
WestAPennA lleghenyAHealthASystem’sA
recently announced the national
launching of their Trauma-Focused
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Certification Program. The program is
designed to assist in responding to the
increasing demand for TF-CBT certified
therapists across the nation and the
world. Contact information for therapists
who meet the TF-CBT certification criteria
and pass the knowledge-based test will
be placed on the TF-CBT National
Register of Certified Therapists, although
this is not required. This register will
enhance the accessibility of TF-CBT
trained therapists to child welfare
organizations, mental health referral
services, parents, teachers, guidance
counselors and others located
throughout the nation. In addition, the
register will allow the TF-CBT developers
to keep certified therapists updated on
important TF-CBT related clinical and
research developments relevant to their
work in the field. More information at
