A Place for Your Unwanted Medications The Franklin County DA's Office
has installed medicine return boxes for unwanted, unused and expired
prescription medications. District Attorney Matt Fogal has installed 4
secure medicine return boxes that will allow people to dispose of unused
and expired prescription and over-the-counter medication safely and
anonymously. The effort is a collaboration of the District Attorney's Office,
Franklin County Drug and Alcohol, Chambersburg Police Department,
Waynesboro Police Department, Greencastle Police Department,
Mercersburg Police Department, and the Community Coalition. For more

Weight During Kindergarten Is a Strong Predictor of later Childhood Obesity A child’s weight during kindergarten may
serve as a strong predictor of whether he or she will develop childhood obesity later in life, new research from
Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health suggests. Overweight 5-year-olds are four times as likely as

Millennials Give Their Parenting Skills An A+ Millennials make great parents – just ask them. A new survey
from BabyCenter finds that mothers between the ages of 18- 32 are pretty darn confident in their child-rearing
abilities. A whopping 96% describe their parenting style as loving, while 92% call themselves encouraging and

Report shows the past five years have not worked in the favor of young children Five years after the height
of the Great Recession, the authors of Subprime Learning: Early Education in America since the Great
Recession looked at an array of indicators in policy, funding, family well-being, and achievement for children
from birth through third grade. The analysis by New America Education Policy Program shows progress in home-
visiting programs, infrastructure-building, standards, and accountability across many states and federal policies.
However, it also shows more child poverty, a lack of attention to the growing population of dual-language

2014 National Veterans Day Poster Do you have an idea for a national Veterans Day poster? If so,

Help the Power Pack The Power Pack Program helps put food in the hands of students who need it over the
weekend. Since Stevens Elementary has a very high percentage of economically disadvantaged children (more
than 95 percent of the school's students receive free and reduced lunches). The Power Pack Program is a
partnership of Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The church buys
most of the food from the Food Bank and some is donated and students then take the pack of food home with
them on Fridays after school. Nonperishable donations would be appreciated. Items such as pastas with meat in
single-serve microwaveable cups or pop-top cans, cereal bowls or boxes, fruit cups, individual packets of instant
oatmeal, 100 percent juice boxes, fruit cups and packs of crackers or chips. To donate, call the church at 264-

Pastoral Care Training: April 1st at Chambersburg Hospital. This annual training for laypersons on clinical
pastoral care in a health care setting consists of 9 consecutive, weekly training sessions which includes a one-day
off campus retreat in May. Training is free, but participants are required to purchase the course books and asked
to commit to a visitation period of three hours per week for six months. Upon the successful completion of the
training and the visitation period, participants may be certified as Lay Pastoral Caregivers. Applicants will need a

March 5: Children and Youth Disability and Mental Health Summit State Rep. Dan Miller, D-Mt. Lebanon, will

March 19: PA One Book Harrisburg: The title chosen for the 2014 Pennsylvania One Book, Every
Young Child program is Stripes of All Types written and illustrated by Susan Stockdale. This is the 9th year that
the program has promoted the importance of early literacy by emphasizing the importance of reading early and
