Dear Recycling Professional:
As we all look to improve recycling around the US, we need better data to understand where we are
today in terms of the types and scope oflocal recycling programs already in place. Compiling data on
local programs is a challenging task, but we believe that this information is valuable not only to us as
producers and recyclers, but also to other stakeholders in the recycling community.
This first of its kind survey of community recycling programs focuses on the kinds of recycling
programs available to residents throughout the country and particularly examines access to recycling
for various types of container materials. We are interested in the scope of metal, glass, plastic, and
paper beverage packaging and enhancing everyone's understanding of where recycling improvements
are possible. Through partnership with the National Recycling Coalition, the American Beverage
Association and the Beverage Packaging Environment Council are funding the data collection and
analysis, with the results shared publicly when the project is complete.
We are asking for your assistance in compiling this information and have turned to R.W. Beck, Inc., a
professional consulting firm, to assist with the data collection and analysis. The survey requests that
you provide information for all individual communities within your county, as well as for the county's
unincorporated areas. Your help in compiling accurate data on these jurisdictions in greatly
appreciated.
