Similar to the request from Wal- Mart, she has requested a report be sent to each county this year rather than send a report to each municipality where their Giant Eagle and Get-Go stores are located. At our meeting she gave me the list of counties where their stores are located and your county is on the list. Giant Eagle does not do their own hauling; however, the corporate headquarters does contract for the garbage and recycling services for all of their stores from the corporate headquarters. Therefore, Nancy Day gets reports from all of her haulers with tonnage information for each of the Giant Eagle and Get-Go locations. I explained to Nancy that we will need the municipal location for each store on the report. She agreed to contact the office at Giant Eagle which pays the local taxes and get the municipal locations of each store. The report she will send you will be a spreadsheet with all of the store addresses, the county location, the municipal location and the total tonnage for each of the different commodities they recycle (their cardboard recycling tonnage is up by 10,000 tons this year!) and the name of the hauler for that particular store location. She prefers to send this spreadsheet to you electronically. I am hoping that each of you will agree to receive this information at the county level and then forward it to the local municipality for them to include on their annual recycling report to you and for them to use the information for their performance grant, if they apply. Please remember that if a municipality is not going to submit a performance grant, you can use this tonnage on your county performance grant, if you apply for one at the county level. Caution: If you are receiving a report from the same hauler that Giant Eagle is using and the hauler report includes the Giant Eagle tonnages, then you cannot use this data. Be careful not to double count Giant Eagle's tonnages. You can expect the report from Nancy Day for the calendar year 2009 recycling tonnages for the Giant Eagle and Get-Go stores in your county sometime in February 2010. If you feel this system will be a problem for you, please contact me.
