Minutes of February 11, 2009 Meeting of Borough of Chambersburg
Recycling Landfill Committee
Meeting started at 7:00 p.m. Members present were: John J. Szajna and Ken
Gill. Also present were representatives of the Borough of Chambersburg (Robert
Wagner, Arnold Barbour and Eric Oyler).
Robert Wagner presented the committee with a report “Borough of Chambersburg
Recycling Program 2009” that highlighted proposed changes to the Borough’s recycling
program. These changes included: (1) amending the Borough’s recycling ordinance to
change the definition of leaf waste; (2) amending the Borough’s recycling ordinance to
include recycling materials from community events; (3) amending the recycling
ordinance to add steel and bi-metal cans to residential recycling curbside pickup; (4)
amending the recycling ordinance to delete the requirement for segregated recyclables at
curbside and provide for co-mingling recycling pickup at curbside; (5) recyclables will be
transported to the Washington Township Transfer Station and (6) to change the Bulky
Item Program to a drop-off facility at the closed landfill. A copy of the full report is
attached to the minutes.
The members of the committee were requested to review this report and prepare
any comments for submission to Borough council at the committee’s next meeting on
March 11, 2009.
