Minutes of January 14, 2009 Meeting of Borough of Chambersburg
Recycling Landfill Committee
Meeting started at 7:00 p.m. Members present were: John J. Szajna, Ken Gill,
Russell Martz, Edward Wells, Charlie White and Dan Wolfe.
John Szajna informed those present that at the February 11, 2009 meeting the
committee will be meeting with representatives of the Borough of Chambersburg (Robert
Wagner, Arnold Barbour and Eric Oyler) to discuss the committee’s recommendations
relative to recycling that were presented to Borough Council on November 17, 2008. It
was decided that the committee would meet fifteen minutes prior to the February 11,
2009 meeting to discuss our presentation to the Borough’s representatives.
John Szajna also requested each committee member to consider and recommend
an individual to be added to our committee, preferably someone involved in the
commercial/industrial sector. John Szajna offered Merle Frey, a resident of
Chambersburg as a possible committee member. He also advised the members that he
had spoken with Kelly Adams of Chambersburg Waste Paper, who advised that his
company’s plans for constructing a single stream recycling operation have been put on
indefinite hold due to the faltering economy.
Discussion was also had concerning the Borough’s landfill and composting
operation. After discussion, all members agreed that it would be best to concentrate our
efforts in improving the Borough’s recycling program before undertaking any
consideration of the landfill.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:00 p.m.
