Township in the County of Franklin was posessed of a Negro Girl at the passing of the act for the gradual abolition of Slavery in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty, aged now twenty eight years. And whereas it never was my intention to hold the said Negro Girl Mariah a slave and therefore did not record her according to Law. And whereas I am descious (??) of securing the freedom of the said negro, and of publicly manifesting the same. Wherefore I do by these presents release and for ever quit claim to the said negro and undertake for myself my heirs and asigns that she shall be henceforth from me and them free to all intnets and purposes. In withness whereof the said David Errell hath hereunto set his hand and seal this twenty sixth day of August 1797. David Arrel
